Dear POI Students,

We are only a few months away from starting POI 2020! We hope that you are as excited to get started as we are. Please read this carefully, as it contains important information for all campers.

General Check-in:



Sunday, May 31, 5:00pm-8:00pm (international/out-of-town overnight campers)

Monday, June 1, 8:00am-8: 30 am (day campers and local overnight campers)

Come to Millsaps College, Ford Academic Complex, Main Lobby (see map at bottom of this page)

Note: Check-in on Monday, June 1 will be from 8:00 am to 8:30 am, followed by an All-Camp meeting from 8:30 am to 9:00 am. Musical activities begin immediately after this meeting. Check-in all other days will be from 8:30 am to 9:00 am.


At check-in, you will receive a detailed itinerary of activities for the full camp.


You are free to purchase plane tickets to any city near Jackson, but we are only responsible for transportation from Jackson airport to the dormitories. Transportation from international airports other than Jackson will run on your own expenses.

General Check-out:

 Regular students Saturday 6, 2020  at 9 am

International Students Sunday 7, 2020 at 9 am

Room and Board:

Dorms are 2 bedrooms + 1 bathroom suites. In other words, bedrooms are single occupancy, and one bathroom is shared by two people.


Overnight students MUST BRING their own bed sheets, comforter, and pillow as they are not provided by  Millsaps or by POI. The beds at the dorms are size “Full” so please plan accordingly.

We are not responsible for the transportation or stay of any participant before June 2 and after June 9, 2019. Please take this information into account to correctly match your travel itinerary.  If you scheduled your trip before and after the arranged dates you will have to plan a stay and we will not cover these expenses or transportation.

Concert attire:

Concert attire is all black. 

Women: black long skirts or slacks, black blouses or shirts (not sleeveless). 

Men: black pants, black dress shirts (no jackets). Black socks and shoes for all


International students: be advised that weather outside is hot, but often buildings are very cold because of air conditioning. If you're not used to air conditioning, we suggest bringing a light sweater for indoor activities. Also, bring comfortable walking shoes, as you will be walking to the dormitories and cafeteria.

Schedule/information per program:

Young Haydns: Daily check-in at 8:30 am (mandatory). Rehearsals and classes from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm. Please bring a snack for mid-morning break and lunch (unless you've purchased the cafeteria lunch option). Must check out and pick up your child by 1:45 pm.

POI Virtuosi : Daily check-in is at 8:00 am (mandatory). Rehearsals and classes are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please bring snacks and lunch (unless you've purchased the cafeteria lunch option). Must pick up your young musicians by 5:15 pm at the latest. Attendance at the festival's nightly 7:30 pm performances are highly encouraged.


Da Capo:  Daily check-in is at 8:30 am (mandatory). Rehearsals and classes are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Please bring snacks and lunch (unless you've purchased the cafeteria lunch option). Must pick up your young musicians by 5:15 pm at the latest. Attendance at the festival's nightly 7:30 pm performances are highly encouraged.

Master Camerata: Daily check-in at 8: 00 am. Rehearsals, master classes and activities are from 8: 15 am to 6:00 pm. Attendance at the festival's nightly 7:30pm performances is mandatory.

Chamber music / Master classes 

This year we will be giving more weight and importance to chamber music and master classes. There will be master classes and coachings every day with POI faculty, and there will be two student chamber music performances (Thursday and Friday afternoons). 


While active participation in chamber music and master classes is not required, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of these opportunities. 

Chamber music:

Chamber music groups are self-organized. If you are interested it playing chamber music, you are expected to approach your fellow musicians and form groups on the first day of camp. Also, you MUST BRING all necessary scores and parts. We are not able to make copies for chamber music. There will be sign-up sheets in the main lobby for chamber music coachings with POI faculty.

Master classes: 


There will be sign up sheets for all master classes with POI faculty. You may sign up with any available faculty member as long as the master class doesn’t conflict with your Master Camerata or POI Virtuosi rehearsals. There is no piano accompaniment, and playing by memory is not required.
